Hopefully when/if you move again, you'll be able to figure out the election laws in that particular state/county/city block/whatever. They can be so different/picky sometimes. :-/
I just registered for my current address... sometime within the month or two before today. Got the card and voted just a few minutes ago and it was just fine (I even eyed a cute boy at the voting location).
